Civil Society condemns Policemen for shooting two UNIOSUN Students

Police have been sidelined as their duty has been handed over to the army

…wants Police officers to be prosecuted for murder

A civil group, the Civil Societies Coalition for the Emancipation of
Osun State (CSCEOS) has strongly condemned the trigger-happy Plain
Police officers for shooting the two students of the Osun State
University (UNIOSUN), Osogbo at the weekend, saying that the affected
Police officers should be charged for attempted murder without further
delaying by the Police authority, adding that the rights group had
concluded arrangement to ensure that the justice was done for the
affected students.

The group also warned the authority of Nigeria Police Force (NPF) in
the country, not to sweep this dastard act under the carpet because of
police involvement, which is contrary to the section 33 of the amended
1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, urging the
Police authority to disclose the names of the trigger-happy Police
officers that carried out the heinous act in line with the Freedom of
Information Act 2011 and amended National Human Rights Commission Act,
2010.

Reacting to the development through a statement signed by the CSCEOS’
Chairman, Comrade Adeniyi, Alimi Sulaiman, which a copy was made
available to newsmen on Monday, stated that the leadership and members
of the group were yet to come to the term on how the Police officers
would descend on armless University Students by shooting them like
animal in a democratic era.

The Statement quoted the Students’ allegation that the plain-cloth
Policemen were at the Students’ Hostel around Oke-Baale, to extort
money from perceived Students of the University that allegedly
involved in the internet free fraud, popularly known as, “Yahoo-Yahoo
(YY)”, where the officers shoot in the process, queried the Police
authority that sent the trigger-happy cops for a special assignment at
the Students Hostel on the fateful Saturday.

It added that all the officers in the department where the
trigger-happy Police officers were working, should be investigated so
as to unravel the circumstances that lead to the act, recalling that
the Citadel of Learning has been witnessing bad reportage in  the
news, since the beginning of the second term in office of Mr. Rauf
Aregbesola in November,2014.

According to the statement, the two final year students of the
University, Robert Akinduro and Samuel Eke were recently missing, the
University lecturer were caught in a sex video with the female student
recently and the corpse of the 400 level Student, late Miss Rofiat
Adebisi of Ipetu-Ijesa campus of the University, was found in Iragbiji
recently, while the new Vice-Chancellor of the University, Professor
Labode Popoola, recently announced the unpaid tuition fees of
N2billion to the world.

It would be recalled that the two students of the State owned
University (UNIOSUN), Adesola Kazeem and Ibrahim Ajao, the 300 and 400
levels of the Department of Physics Electronics respectively, were
shot by the plain-clothed men of the Zone 11 of the Nigerian Police
Force controlling Osun, Oyo and Ondo states on Saturday, where it was
claimed that the Police officers were looking for Yahoo-Yahoo boys.

The group therefore, called on the attention of the University
authority to go spiritual in cleansing of the institution because of
the recent occurrence in the University community in order to
forestall future occurrences
