Nigerian Student Leaders Condemn ‘Bribed’ NANS President For Undemocratically Endorsing Jonathan

Comrade Shettima Umar: Borno State Students Condems (NANS) Endorsement
On President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan Re-election

The National Union of Borno State Students (NUBOSS) under the able
Leadership of Comrade Shettima Umar, has strongly condemned outrightly
the recent endorsement of Goodluck Ebele Jonathan second term
presidential re-election bid by the National Association of Nigerian
Students (NANS) President, describing the action as undemocratic and
unpatriotic.

“No Association, individual or groups of persons have such power to
handpick a candidate without proper consultation within all
stakeholders.

The power on who will be the students President of the Federal
Republic of Nigeria in 2015 solidly rest in the hands of the Nigerian
Students who stayed at home for over Six (6) month during the ASUU
Strike, and over Nine months during the ASUP Strike respectively”

The NANS President “Comr. Tijjani Usman Shehu recently endorse
President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan as the student sole candidate for
the March 28th Presidential Election, while Speaking at a one-day
National Students Solidarity Parley in Abuja, with the theme:
‘Transformation Agenda of President Goodluck Jonathan Administration’,

The endorsement which we believed was strongly sponsored, The NANS
President who is a Member of the Goodluck Jonathan Campaign
Organisation endorse jonathan in return of the gesture of he been part
of the campaign committee but not with the interest of a single
Nigerian Students.

Bad governance is not only rooted in bad leadership but also bad
citizenship while responsible citizenship can produce a responsible
leadership.

We, the entire Borno State Student strongly condemn such blind
endorsement, The song of sorrow makes the heart bleed, Nigerian
Students and Youths have suffered so much under the present federal
government led administration and these sufferings are still very
fresh in our thought while history has given us another opportunity to
reposition our beloved Nigeria in the forthcoming general elections
slated for 28th March and 11th of April 2015.

Under this current Federal Government led Administration, Nigerian
Students have suffered unjustly in the following order:

1. The College of Education/Polytechnic Students spent not less than
thirteen (13) months at home as a result of COEASU/ASUP strikes.

2. The University Students spent over Six (6) months at home for
compulsory ASUU Strike which paralyzed 2013/2014 Academic Section.

3. Many Nigerians Students Leaders and Youths are jobless and the
Aborted Abuja Eagle Square Immigration recruitment left about 20
Youths dead and several Injured with no compensation up till date
while Minister Abba Moro that supervised the process is yet to be
questioned or quizzed over the ugly incident.

4. The security of the Nation is in shambles, as Students in the
North-Eastern part of Nigerian are living in agony and pains as a
result of Boko Haram Insurgency. We have also lost students
in the following order:

* Forty-nine (49) Nigerian Students died in Potiskum, Yobe State on
the 10th November, 2014.

* The Federal Government is yet to fulfill its promise to re-unite the
missing over Two Hundred and Nineteen (219) Chibok Girls with their
families in Chibok, Borno State since 14th
April, 2014.

* The death of Forty-nine (59) Nigerian Students in Federal Government
College, Buni Yadi, Yobe State on 25th February, 2014.

* Another Sixteen (16) Students were killed at Bayero University Kano,
Kano State in (2012)

5. Non-challant attitude of Federal Government to welfare of the
Nigerian Students in diaspora.

Therefore on this basis, we entire Borno State Students distanced our
self from such undemocratic and unpatriotic endorsement.

As a matter of fact, if you refuse to stand up for something you will
fall for anything and freedom is not freely given to the oppressed
until you fight for it. We can feel the heartbeats of Nigerian
Students and their search of a Better Nigeria.

We, The genuine Nigerian students are in dire need of CHANGE.

Signed:
Comr. Shettima Umar
