The government of Goodluck Jonathan has said through the minister of information, Labran Maku that “90% of the #BringBackOurGirls” protesters are APC (the opposition party).” Bring back our girls protests erupted days after over 200 girls were abducted by Boko Haram terrorists from school in Chibok, Borno state of Nigeria. Millions of celebrities and international figures have been involved in the global protests and how these people who include the wife of the president of America, Michelle Obama can be ‘APC,’ All Progressives Congress, is yet to be explained by the Nigerian government. Virtually every crises and reaction the government cannot handle is blamed on the opposition, including now, global protests for the government to rescue the desperate girls.
the Nigerian government initially attempted to play off the abduction, lying, as the Economist put it, that they had rescued all but 8 of the abducted girls; this fable however did not hold for long as the families cried out. Following these, a campaign of intimidation has been run to hush protests that went viral around the world. Nigeria’s presidents wife was recorded on video intimidating the school teachers who she later had arrested. The executive leadership and president’s familypushed a theory that the abduction was a hoax.
Currently, the president is fighting and sponsoring thugs to push a “return our girls” counter protest. These sponsored thugs have been violently, under supervision of the state police, disrupting #BringBackOurGirls protests in the nation’s capital.
