The Ondo Rebirth Network (ORN) wishes to alert the general public on the ongoing attempt by the All Progressives Congress, APC and its candidate in the forthcoming Governorship election in Ondo State, Barrister Rotimi Akeredolu to ensure the forceful removal of the Ondo State Resident Electoral Commissioner, Mr. Olusegun Agbaje.
This latest move by the Ondo State APC is not unconnected with the refusal of the REC to allow the injection of fake names into the State’s voters register, by agents of the APC Governorship candidate, Mr. Akeredolu who have been pressurizing the State’s INEC REC to do same in the last few days.
As Nigerians, we believe that the independence of the INEC must not be compromised for any political reason and we hereby call on the Chairman of INEC, Professor Mahmud Yakub to be mindful of this latest move by the APC because, it will be totally resisted by us.
The entire global community is on the look for how INEC will be able to redeem its image after the controversies that arose from the conduct of the Edo State governorship election only few weeks ago. The current move if allowed, may further complicate the process and compound the fear of Nigerians that INEC under Professor Yakub may become totally incapable of deepening our democracy through credible electoral process.
The people of Ondo must be allowed to determine who leads them, this must be without any iota of fraud or manipulation by any individual or group.
