Key Individuals Pardoned:
- Gen. Mark Milley (Former Chairman of Joint Chiefs of Staff)
- Dr. Anthony Fauci (The man who thought he was science, known for implementing strict Covid-19 measures including lockdowns, mask mandates, and social distancing requirements)
- Rep. Liz Cheney and other January 6th Committee members
President Biden issued unprecedented preemptive pardons Monday to protect key Trump critics from potential future prosecution. The pardons, announced hours before Trump’s inauguration, shield several prominent figures who faced intense criticism from Trump and his allies.
In his statement, Biden cited concerns about “baseless and politically motivated investigations” potentially targeting these individuals. He emphasized these pardons shouldn’t be interpreted as admissions of guilt, calling the recipients public servants who showed “tireless commitment to our country.”
Gen. Milley expressed gratitude for the pardon, stating he didn’t want to spend his remaining years fighting “those who unjustly might seek retribution.” Some pardon recipients weren’t notified in advance.
The move came after Biden had previously warned Trump against “settling scores” with political opponents even though many on the other side believe Trump will be too preoccupied with MAGA goals, to have time to persecute past opponents.
Notable figures like Adam Kinzinger and Adam Schiff have declined the preemptive pardons.
