Budget Padding: Nigeria Must Setup Administrative Inquiry

Padded budget

NewsRescue

Media reports of Nigeria’s government unleashing detectives to snoop round the ministries and budget office are hopefully untrue as they are rather ridiculous and portray a lack of honesty and commitment by the Buhari administration.

The legitimate way to deal with the embarrassing issue of the budget padding would be the establishment of an Administrative Inquiry panel to question officials across the ministries and parastatals and to invite all officials related to writing the budget to answer questions on who did what and under whose instructions.

Implications

The international community now knows that Nigeria is not prepared and is not capable of spending the huge amount of money we have budgeted. No plans on what to do with the money by the government in place would inevitably promote corruption.

Nigeria should not be surprised if nobody borrows the country the huge deficit it is planning on mis-spending.

The same lenders needed to give people money in Ivory coast, Azerbaijan and other broke countries.
