President Muhammadu Buhari has met with the parents of 200 of the missing Chibok girls. The meeting took place after the parents marched on Abuja early Thursday morning.
The young girls were kidnapped nearly two years ago by the terrorist group Boko Haram. During his first media chat, President Buhari admitted that the Federal Government did not have any actionable intelligence on the whereabouts of the girls.
When the parents first attempted to see the President they were met, instead, by the Minister for Women Affairs, Aisha Alhassan. Minister Alhassan chided the parents for not first informing the President’s office of their visit.
Oby Ezekwesili, the leader of the Bring Back Our Girls (BBOG) group responded to the minister angrily.
“You have been very unfair to us I don’t understand why you can be chiding the parents and the movement.
“These parents were triggered by the words of the President who promised to rescue their daughters,” she said.
Eventually, President Buhari agreed to meet with BBOG, however, he did not allow the media access to the meeting.
Thus far, the Chibok girls have been missing for 640 days.
