Adamawa is the worst hit of the three states
Over 88 thousand people have been displaced by floods in three neighbouring states of Adamawa, Benue, and Taraba, the National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, said on Monday.
The agency said it has registered 88,740 Internally Displaced Persons, IDPs, in the states whose floods were triggered by the release of water from the Lagdo Dam in the Republic of Cameroon.
The IDPs according to NEMA spokesperson Yushau Shuaib were registered by Emergency and Rescue workers after the floods that consumed houses and washed away farmlands.
NEMA spokesperson, Yushau Shuaib, in the statement said Adamawa State was the worst hit, with emergency workers recording over 46 thousand displaced people in the seven affected local government councils.
In Benue State, over nineteen thousand displaced people were registered from six affected local government councils; while in Taraba, the emergency workers registered over twenty three thousand IDPs in camps that are spread in seven local government councils of the state.
Mr. Shuaib also said the NEMA officials have collaborated with major stakeholders especially the respective State Emergency Management Agencies, response agencies, Red Cross Society, and recognized volunteers in the establishment and management of the camps where the displaced persons are temporarily accommodated.
Relief materials, he said, have also been provided to the victims. –PremiumTimes
