“Don’t Burn A Village To Kill Few Rats;” Buhari Urged To Call EFCC To Order

NewsRescue

“We must never set fire to an entire village because we want to catch a few rats.”

Igbimo Odo Yoruba, the central coordinating organ of Yoruba Youth organizations at home and in diaspora, wishes to call the attention of Nigerians and the global community, to the ongoing attempt by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC to illegally ambush our justice system with the sole aim of humiliating perceived political opponents of the current administration in Nigeria.

With what played out yesterday through the shameful and unnecessary blackmail of one of our sons, Otunba Iyiola Omisore, It has become obvious that some personalities have been targeted for obliteration of their businesses or even physical personal annihilation, by the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari. The EFCC as an agent of government now treats everyone as if every Nigerian is a potential corrupt individual.

It is amazing, that Otunba Iyiola Omisore is being pronounced guilty and treated as felons ahead of any judicial process by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC. No one ever thought that pursuing one man and killing his business could ruin the lives of thousands of his staff and dependants which is exactly what the present government through its agency is set to achieve.

The hoopla is getting out of hand and it is difficult not to see a pattern that indicates a witch-hunt the sort of which this nation has never witnessed.

We as a people must seek a true change that protects the human rights of saints and sinners that presents all Nigerians the equal opportunity of been innocent till proven guilty.

At this point in time, Nigeria must do nothing to prolong the regime of fear and over-concentration of the power of life and death in the hands of privileged agents of government who would use coercion rather than persuasion.

The Igbimo Odo Yoruba, view the undue vilification of Otunba Omisore by the EFCC, as a clear case of witch hunt, blackmail and image tarnishing, which is purely politically motivated.

We condemn a situation whereby, Otunba Omisore is being sentenced to guilt through the media by the EFCC, rather than a competent court of jurisdiction, which the law permits the EFCC to approach at any time.

It is instructive to remind Nigerians, that on the same day that the EFCC declared Him wanted, Otunba Iyiola Omisore and the EFCC through her lawyer were still in court, prior to the shameless press release by the agency which it has yet to deny or revoke. One will conclude that a ridicule of the so called anti corruption crusade is being made.

We hereby call on the Federal government and the EFCC to immediately stop the act of intimidation and reckless blackmail on Otunba Iyiola Omisore and all other kinsmen of ours and rather focus on a true unbiased, unsentimental and non clime pursue of corrupt people and such should be done by adherence and following the rule of law upon which our democracy and governance is inched.

We shall not hesitate to use every legitimate means, to resist this renewed onslaught of the individual and corporate integrity of our people by the incumbent administration.

Yours faithfully,
Prince Adewale Gbolagade                                    Miss Adenike Olateju
President                                                              Publicity Secretary
