#LastMinuteLooting: APC To Probe Plateau’s Jang For Last-min Hiring, Backdating, Contracts

by Andrew Ajijah

The All Progressives Congress in Plateau state has said it might probe the administration of the current governor of the state, Jonah Jang, should the government continue to award new contracts and engage fresh civil servants.

The Chairman of the party, Latep Dabang, alleged that a large number of people are being recruited into the state civil service while their employment documents are back dated.

Mr. Dabang, at a press conference in Jos on Monday, alleged that 6800 people have been set aside for fresh recruitment into the state’s civil service in the state.

He said the action of Mr. Jang administration was illegal and uncalled for.

“6,800 people are to be recruited cutting across the following ministries and departments: Agriculture 500, Cabinet and Special duties 500, Finance 250, Government House 175, Housing and Urban development 200, Health 1,500, Lands, Survey and Town Planning 100, Local government 2,750, and Works 275.”

“The list has been sent to the civil service commission through one of its commissioners for prompt execution of the mandate,” Mr. Dabang said.

He classified the alleged employment as illegal as according to him the vacant positions were never advertised.

“Let it be made very clear that six weeks to the exit of the Jang administration does not provide justifiable reasons to embark on major policy decisions and execution like recruitment, replacement of service servants.”

The APC in the state also alleged that new districts were being created by the outgoing administration and called on residents to reject the creation of any districts by Mr. Jang administration at the end of his tenure.

“We therefore urge all citizens and communities to reject any such appointments and creation of districts.”

Mr. Dabang warned the outgoing administration to stop further expenditures that are irrelevant to the development of the state.

“There should be no further arbitrary expenditures on settlement of contextual liabilities and capital projects except for recurrent to settle staff salaries/emoluments.”
