geno-gumiIslamic scholar Sheikh Dahiru Usman  Bauchi has disassociated himself and followers of the Tijjaniyyah sect from campaigning for President Goodluck Jonathan’s re-election.

Dahiru Bauchi who is the leader of the sect,  spoke to newsmen in Bauchi yesterday over an  advertorial which portrayed Tijjaniyyah followers as supporting Jonathan, describing it as ‘irresponsible’ and a desperate attempt by some politicians.

He said if anyone wants to make such statement he should assemble all Muslims in Yobe and Borno states and ask them to stand by the president.

The family of Sheikh Ibrahim Nyass has also distanced itself from the advertorial.

Leader of the followers of Tijjaniyyah, Sheikh Ahmed Tijjani Nyass, has also refuted the publication which portrayed him as supporting the president.

Spokesman of the Nyass family in Nigeria, Sheikh Ahmed Tijjani Sani Awwalu, told newsmen in Bauchi yesterday: “Our attention was drawn to the advertorial published on page 18 of the Daily Trust of Thursday January 1, 2015 by a group called Tijjaniyyah Awareness Initiative. We don’t know the organisation and the scholar has no hand in the publication”.

Awwalu said Sheikh Nyass is an Islamic scholar and not a politician and therefore disowns anything linking him with support for any candidate.

“He has no candidate among all the party candidates and advises Nigerian Muslims to disregard the statement,” he added.

He said the scholar always comes to Nigeria for Islamic activities and prayers for peace and stability of the country, and the picture in the advertorial was taken long ago when he was invited to pray for peace in Nigeria.
