A group under the auspice of Arewa Youth Coalition for Peace (AYCP) today joined other Nigerians to express dismay over the postponement of the general election by Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The group also urged the electoral body to ensure they conduct the election on the re-schedule date across the country.

The group disclosed this  in a statement signed by the group Chairman Muktar Muhammed and made available to newsmen in Kaduna.

AYCP urged  security agencies to be vigilant during this period of postponement of the election to avoid any break down of law and order.

“AYCP is ever ready to partner with meaningful organization that is committed and dedicated in propagation of peace and unity in the north and Nigeria at large.

“AYCP is using this medium to call on all Arewa Youth and Nigerians to see the postponement  as a will of God.

“However, peace and unity of the nation is  paramount priority to Nigerians.

“We want Nigerians to know that the new date set up by INEC to hold the general election cannot be achieved unless there is complete peace, unity and harmony in our dear country,” he said.

AYCP also called on political leaders, religious leaders’, traditional rulers and civil societies to support free, fair and credible election so as to deepen the lasting democracy.
