According to local officials, powerful explosions rocked many Ukrainian cities on Tuesday morning. Russia accused Kiev of carrying out fatal “terrorist attacks” on Donetsk and Belgorod, threatening revenge.
The Russian Defence Ministry confirmed the strikes, claiming that they were carried out with drones and long-range, high-precision weapons against Ukrainian defence industry facilities that manufacture missiles, unmanned aerial vehicles, and other military equipment.
Officials said the attack was also targeted at eliminating missile storage facilities and other types of ammunition, including those provided by Kiev’s Western supporters, and that “all targets have been hit.”
The mayor of Kiev, Vitaly Klitschko, reported blasts in many areas in the early hours of Tuesday morning. He stated that power had been turned off to several facilities and residential structures, and that “in some areas, there is a temporary lack of pressure in the water supply network.”
According to Ukraine’s Energy Ministry, the strikes have left approximately 260,000 city residents without power.
According to the mayor, three fires broke out in the Podolsky neighbourhood of Kiev’s western outskirts, affecting one warehouse building. He went on to say that another warehouse in the capital’s northwest was on fire.
Later, Klitschko stated that a rocket strike in the western Solomensky area had injured 20 persons, 19 of whom were hospitalised.
According to the Ukrainian Air Force, Russia launched a volley of Kinzhal hypersonic missiles from nine MiG-31 jets. It also warned of “significant activity of enemy tactical aviation” in the Azov Sea.
