Why Did You Dig Out My Dead Body?, Late Ahmad Zakzaky Asks General Buratai

NewsRescue

On July 25th of 2014, while I and others were trekking in the Al-Quds procession in support of the Palestinians’ cause, General Minimah attacked us. His troops fired on us and killed dozens of us. His men spotted me and two of my brothers and made sure they seized us in particular, being sons of Sheikh Zakzaky. They took us in their armored truck pretending to be taking us from a hospital to another and then shot us point blank, also breaking our limbs. One of my brothers, Ali whose legs they broke, survived and was able to tell of our tale before he passed. It was targeted killing, General Minimah was working on a script to wipeout the Zakzaky clan.

I was laid to rest at Darul Rahma burial ground till December 13th this year. Dear General Tukur Yusuf Buratai, I want to know why you came and exhumed my grave? Dear General, I have not moved a limb from within my resting place, I did not block the streets in protest after you stationed your men at Hussainiyyah. I did not hide for cover in the complex. I did not stand to defend Sheikh Zakzaky from your blood-seeking troops at Gyellesu. I was simply trying to rest in peace in my grave. Why did you exhume my body and throw my bones at an unknown dump, with my limbs mixed up with the limbs of others?

Dear General Buratai, I am trying hard to believe you when you say you followed Rules of engagement, but what rule demands you un-burry the dead, killed by the very army you now command over?

Dear General T. Y. Buratai, I am not even asking why you have not yet investigated those who killed me and 32 others. All I ask is why you dug me out of my grave and the graves of my brothers?

You swore an obligation of fairness to Nigeria. Your office is not a religious one but a national one. You have the prerogative to resign if asked to pursue religious and sectarian duties that violate your oath to Nigeria. God asks us to keep our oaths. Why did you dig out my rotting body on December 13th of 2015?

The Prophet of Islam said: “Fear the prayer of the oppressed, even if he is a disbeliever, for there is no barrier (between it and Allah [the God]).” (Al-Bukhari and Muslim)

I have eternity to wait for your response.
