In the last 20 years, a Nigerian human rights group has taken in at least 8,000 children accused of witchcraft. Dangerous superstitions have robbed victims of a bright future, but with the assistance of the Child Rights and Rehabilitation Network, they can be incorporated into society.

“I couldn’t stand seeing innocent children being attacked, killed, and abandoned because of misinformation from some churches in their homes and families,” said Sam Itauma, head of the network.

He also discussed the organization’s efforts to combat false notions, adding that the efforts have been faced with backlash and resistance.

“You have to sacrifice your comfort, almost your life, so that people can live,” Itauma remarked.
