By Malam Isah Abbas Ahmed,
On Saturday May 8, 2017, Nigerian Government exchanged 82 Chibok girls kidnapped by Boko Haram for prisoners (as reported by Reuters). This did not went well with a lot of people, especially those from North East. It was reported that the group selected those who they want released according to their important to them and their activities.
Barely one month after this exchange, on Wednesday June 7, 2017, Boko Haram execute coordinated attacks staging multiple attacks targeting mosques where Muslim worshippers were praying in Maiduguri which claimed at least 10 lives and as much as 40 injured (as reported by Premium Times).
A day after the Maiduguri attack, a bomb explosion also occurred in Fadaman Rake area of Hong Local Government in Adamawa State about 7pm of Wednesday June 8, 2017 which claimed 2 lives and 3 injured (reported by Premium Times).
Now the questions I have are:
1. With thousands of people (Nigerians) affected, why are Chibok Girls considered of high priority? Are their lives better than that of others?
2. Did FG through DSS give a second thought before sealing this deal?
3. Now that this particular deal is taking us back to where we felt we have left, what is the FG doing about it?
The earlier we face reality in this whole menace the better for our dear country. All lives must be considered important.
