Deji Adeyanju, a socio-political activist, claims that the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele, has outwitted politicians by redesigning the Naira.
According to Adeyanju, Emefiele foiled politicians’ plan to unleash stockpiled billions on voters during the upcoming elections.
CBN announced the redesign of the N200, N500, and N1000 notes in 2022.
Emefiele had set December 31st as the deadline for exchanging old naira notes for new ones.
Following the uproar that greeted the deadline, Emefiele announced a date extension until February 10.
In the midst of the deadline extension, the All Progressives Congress, APC, presidential candidate Bola Tinubu, and Kaduna Governor Nasir El-Rufai claimed that the redesigned naira policy was aimed at the party’s presidential campaign.
However, Adeyanju stated that politicians would not receive the new naira notes in time for the 2023 elections.
Adeyanju told newsmen that the CBN should prohibit bank executives from delivering new notes to politicians.
“Regardless of the tears elRufai and others shed during this period, nobody is delivering new Naira notes to anyone’s house in a Bullion van this time,” Adeyanju says.
“New naira redesign is one of the best decisions of the Emefiele-led CBN, Tinubu’s tears notwithstanding.
“The CBN foiled politicians’ plan to unleash stockpiled billions on voters for vote buying. The next step is to prevent bank executives from handing them new notes.
