As Three Die, Lawyer Sues el-Rufa’i Over Zaria Demolition

El-Rufai implicated

A Kaduna-based lawyer, Barrister John Achimugu, has instituted a suit against the Kaduna State governor, Malam Nasir el-Rufa’i, over the demolition of a whole community in Zaria.

The case was instituted on Friday at the State High Court, Kaduna. No date was fixed for hearing.
In a related development, some of the displaced persons of the community behind the Alhudahuda College have either lost their lives or are roaming about the streets of Zaria begging for alms.

Last Friday after the Juma’at prayer at the Kofar Doka mosque, a displaced resident told the congregation that the demolition of his house has rendered him and 15 members of his family homeless. The man begged the worshippers to assist him with a sum of N6,000 to make up the N12,000 rent for his new accommodation.

A Daily Trust on Sunday check revealed that, at least, three persons have lost their lives as a result of the demolitions in Zaria. One Ali Yayo, a resident of the community behind Alhudahuda, whose house was demolished, was said to have suddenly slumped and died. “There were also Sani Anle and Murtalele who also died after their houses were demolished. At least, seven residents of the area are receiving treatment at various hospitals in Zaria. One of them is Abubakar Mai Sirfani who lost his new house in the demolition,” a victim told the Daily Trust on Sunday.
