Suspected Boko Haram militants have attacked two border towns in northeast Borno State, a local senator has confirmed.
The militants attacked Damasak and Ashigarchi towns, Mobbar Local Government, Monday morning, setting many houses ablaze. Scores may have been killed as hundreds of people fled to Niger Republic.
Kanar Bana, who ran into the bush said “They came at about 6 a.m., and fired shots into houses to force people out.”
“We were helpless. Many people were no where to be found. They are still there up till now and still firing shots. Many people may have died. I am talking to you now from the bush,” Auwali Bulama said.
“We are in the hundreds here with no food and no water. As I am speaking to you I am yet to see my wife and three children.”
Senator Maina Maji, representing Borno north in the Nigerian National Assembly, also confirmed the developments to journalists in Maiduguri on the phone.
