Ndume and Konduga

ABUJA – A new twist may be in the offing in the investigation of alleged corrupt practices leveled against the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, SGF, Engr. Lawal Babachir and Acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Mr. Ibrahim Magu.

The new development may be such that may give a soft landing to the indicted men.

Recall, however, that President Muhammadu Buhari had on Sunday directed the Minister of Justice and Attorney-General of the Federation, AGF, Abubakar Malami Malami to investigate both men.

Interestingly, Malami on Monday paid a visit to President Muhammadu Buhari at the presidential Villa.

Magu and Babachir

Malami’s visit to the Villa happened on a day Senate Leader, Senator Ali Ndume also visited the president.

Though Malami wouldn’t speak to Journalists as he made his way out, sidestepping every question made by the State House Correspondents, the air around the Villa was filled with prospects of early commencement of the investigation.

But the position of Ndume who spoke to the correspondents after a private meeting with the president gave an impression of new twist to the issues.

Recall that the senate had on Wednesday last week found the SGF culpable in the management of funds meant for the welfare of the Internally Displaced Persons, IDPs in the North East.

Similarly, the Senate also rejected the nomination of Magu and declined to confirm him as the substantive chairman of EFCC, basing its rejection on the DSS security report.

But speaking to Newsmen after meeting with the president, Ndume said there was no categorical statement on SGF sack by the senate even as he said that the security of the Department of State Service, DSS which indicted Magu would be further investigated.

According to him, both issues were a work in progress.
