Kano Journalists Banned From Covering Vice President’s Official Visit

 A combined team of media from various organizations in Kano State were barred from covering Vice President Yemi Osinbajo’s official visit to the State.

The Escort Commander to Nigeria’s Mr. Osinbajo, DSP Akande Bamidele, prevented the official journalist vehicle from joining the Vice President’s convoy.

Mr. Bamidele brashly told the members of the media that “the Vice President is not on jamboree, you will not follow us,” according to reports.

Mr. Bamidele insisted that he had been instructed not to allow the journalists to cover Mr. Osinbajo’s activities in Kano State and that they will not be permitted to follow the official convoy.

At the Sabon Titin Dorayi underpass a military police officer, Captain S. Lawal, instructed four policemen to block journalists vehicle and stop them from following the convoy.

The military officer told the journalists’ driver the he was instructed by the State Governor, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, that their vehicle is not allow into convoy.

Laolu Akande, the Senior Special Adviser for Media and Publicity to Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, was contacted for statement on these events in Kano State but he could not be reached at the time of reporting.
