#MaiduguriMassacre: Buhari Must Go! Service Chiefs Must Go! We Can’t Take This Anymore – Editorial

Buhari celebrates with Buratai after Zaria massacre, Maiduguri deadly Boko Haram attach that the government denied happened

At least 30 innocent Nigerian commuters were burned alive and otherwise massacred in their vehicles, locked out of Maiduguri by the Nigerian military. An unknown number have been kidnapped.

Credible accounts relay that the travelers were within five minutes of 5pm when the soldiers on post denied them entry into Maiduguri, locking the city gate on them and retiring to their safe barracks.

Why should the Nigerian army be shutting the gate into the capital at 5pm?

Why should citizens be left to sleep outside the city gates till the morning without protection from our armed service men?

Why should the city be locked to commuters at all? And if it must be locked, why are those who reach late not moved to a location secured by the Nigerian military or police?

Why does this administration spread false propaganda that Boko Haram has been defeated while leaving our people at the mercy of the terrorists?

Borno governor Zulum while blaming the military for the massacre, lamented:

“Since my inauguration as the governor of Borno State from May 29th to date, Auno town has been attacked for about six times now. And the reason is that the military has withdrawn from Auno town.

“We have made repeated plea to the military to re-establish a base in Auno since it is one of the flashpoints of the Boko Haram, but nothing has been done to that effect.”

Furious Governor Zulum

The massacre at the gates of Maiduguri yesterday is one in several happening daily in the war-torn northeast, with most unreported due to brutal military intimidation and clampdown on free speech. This can no longer be tolerated.

Why do we hear reports of the army fighting the government and people of Borno, even including fighting and killing the police, and abandoning their duty to protect the state?

Why do we not have military convoys running the highways and protecting them, rather they lock out the people who risked their lives to get to the capital?

The Buhari government was only elected on the promise of securing the state. Almost 5 years later, things are out of control and the government is only focusing on a propaganda war.

Buhari’s failure to fire the service chiefs who have failed to protect the people and are even beyond their retirement, shows he is incompetent and only concerned with securing his life and job and not with securing the nation.

Five years later, no displaced person can return to their farms. They are begging the Buhari government but their pleas fall on deaf ears.

Five years later, terror is not contained in the north east, rather it has spread across the entire country forcing regions to set up own security apparati.

Enough is enough. The lives of our fellow Nigerians will not be massacred in vain. Buhari must go!

Buhari must resign or be resigned!

Nigeria must come under a state of emergency now!
