On Saturday afternoon, a man opened fire at a shopping mall in Allen, Texas, killing eight people and injuring seven, according to officials. Law enforcement shot and killed the shooter.

The attack occurred at the Allen Premium Outlets mall in Allen, Texas, a northern suburb of Dallas. According to police, an officer was responding to an unrelated incident when he heard gunfire. “The officer engaged the suspect and neutralized the threat,” according to the Allen Police Department.

According to Allen Fire Chief Jonathan Boyd, nine patients were hospitalized, but two died as a result of their injuries. He went on to say that three of them “are in critical surgery, and four are stable.”

According to social media videos and images, the gunman was male and wore dark clothing and sunglasses during the attack. According to CNN, he looked to be armed with an AR-15-style semi-automatic rifle and numerous magazines, as well as body armor.

“Today is a tragic day for the City of Allen, our citizens, friends, and visitors who were at the Allen Premium Outlets,” said Allen Mayor Ken Fulk. “Allen is a proud and safe city, which makes today’s senseless act of violence even more shocking.”

The tragedy came just a week after a man shot and killed five of his neighbors in Cleveland, Texas. After a four-day manhunt, the suspect was apprehended.

Six people were killed in a mass shooting at a Christian school in Nashville, Tennessee, in March. After arriving on the scene, the cops shot the offender.
