Personal Statement on the Abia Elections – UDP Candidate, Uche Chuta

The Abia guber elections are done and over with. In the end it was simply a rigging fest between PDP and APGA on who could write the best results. Congratulations to PDP for winning that competition though it’s sad that this is still the reality of our politics today.

I hope the incoming governor elect, Okezie Ikpeazu understands the expectations from Abians for him to “deliver”. Roads in Aba should be your major focus. I see you also believe in creating satellite towns as was also outlined in detail in my manifesto. If you latch on to this it will take Abia to the next level.

To my fellow candidates in the elections, please accept my congratulations for running a good race. I met a number of you at the debate from the APC, PPA, UPP, LP and ACPN. God will reward your efforts.

People of Abia do not forget that this is God’s own state. I’m more than convinced that this state will become the glory of our nation Nigeria. We need to continue to work hard. We also need to continue to develop political maturity on ensuring that we exercise our civic responsibility on voting and ensuring it counts. Let’s also remember that if politicians buy your votes then they owe you nothing when they enter into office. I totally enjoyed the warmth all across the state I received during the campaign. You all shall be seeing me often.

My Ukwa brethren, I know it seems like we have been relegated in the politics of our state even though we are the major source of revenue (oil). Let us continue to be peaceful till justice and equity comes our way.

My supporters all around the world are a family I never knew I had. Your prayers, well wishes, contributions and donations are what sustained me in this race for the past 1 year. I keep on praying for each and every one of you and I’m forever grateful. You all are the winners in this race as we defied the moneybags, vested interests and the so called political powers and dared to believe. These forces united to fight us as they had never before in Nigeria seen such an opposition to the status quo. We have sent them a clear message and demystified the political process. This is just the beginning of retaking back our country from them.

The next election is in 2019 and what 2015 has taught me is that no single individual can succeed working alone. One will need a coalition of likeminded individuals.

Thanks again and to God be all the glory.
