Two earthquakes struck Turkey on Monday evening, according to local media, citing emergency services. The disaster struck just two weeks after another series of powerful earthquakes devastated Turkey and Syria.
According to the country’s Anadolu news agency, several buildings collapsed as a result of the new quakes. The Turkish Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency (AFAD) has advised residents to avoid coastal areas due to the threat of rising sea levels along the Mediterranean coast.
According to Interior Minister Suleyman Soylu, at least three people were killed and 213 were injured in the recent earthquakes. Two weeks ago, two major earthquakes with magnitudes of 7.7 and 7.6 respectively struck as many as ten Turkish provinces, killing at least 41,000 people and affecting over 13 million people.
The quakes on Monday were felt in Syria, which was also affected by the natural disaster two weeks ago, as well as Jordan, Egypt, and Israel.
