According to Russian Security Council Secretary Nikolay Patrushev, the detonation of depleted uranium shells in Ukraine has created a radioactive cloud that has been blown towards Western Europe. The United Kingdom has given Ukraine with this sort of munition to be fired from British-made Challenger tanks.
The alleged threat was presented by a senior official during a cabinet meeting on Friday, during which he accused the US of using its allies to send “help” to other nations that results in harm to the receivers.
“They ‘helped’ Ukraine in this way as well, putting pressure on its satellites to supply depleted uranium munitions.” Their annihilation caused a radioactive cloud to move towards Western Europe. Patrushev stated, “They have detected an increase in radiation in Poland.”
Unconfirmed claims in Ukraine have circulated about the objective of a Russian hit last Saturday, which Moscow claimed destroyed an armaments stockpile in the city of Khmelnitsky. According to the accusations, the military installation was utilised to store depleted uranium shells supplied by the United Kingdom. It’s possible that the material was transformed into dust by huge explosions at the depot.
Based on research in countries such as Serbia and Iraq, where the weapons were previously deployed, Russia previously warned that the use of depleted uranium munitions poses a long-term environmental and public health harm. London has denied that such a risk exists.
While weakly radioactive, depleted uranium is mostly regarded a health danger due to its poisonous heavy metal nature. Particles of uranium or uranium oxide created by an explosion could be inhaled or contaminate the environment.
Polish authorities have refuted reports of a radiation surge in the eastern city of Lublin on Monday.
The reported deployment of Ukrainian military patrols that purportedly collected samples in and near Khmelnitsky fanned speculation about the blast. A nuclear power station lies close, but according to reports, patrols that regularly monitor the situation around the facility were seen travelling far from their customary routes.
