PORT HARCOURT— Rivers State government has said it spent N1.4 billion on school fees for students of the state origin on scholarship abroad.
Deputy governor of the state, Mrs. Ipalibo Banigo, disclosed this yesterday at St Paul’s Anglican Church, during a service to commemorate the nation’s 55th independence anniversary.
The deputy governor assured that Governor Nyesom Wike was determined to see that the foreign students completed their programmes.
She said: “His Excellency has spent N1.4 billion so far on overseas scholarships and just last Thursday, he released N491 million to make sure that every child of Rivers State schooling abroad received money. We will continue to help the children irrespective of how they got there.”
Earlier, Archbishop of Niger Delta Province and Bishop, Diocese of Niger Delta North, Anglican Communion, Most Rev Ignatius Kattey, enjoined leaders at all levels to provide quality leadership to Nigerians and called for improved security situation in the country.
Chairman, Rivers State chapter of Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, Apostle Zilly Aggrey, called on President Muhammadu Buhari to be fair to all sections of the country.
