GOVERNOR Nyesom Wike of Rivers State, has sacked Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government because of high level insecurity that has been claiming lives in the area.

Former Chairman of the local government, Augustine Ahiamadu, according to security reports government acted on, was allegedly funding cult groups in the area which led to the loss of lives and property in the troubled area.

Consequently, Wike has inaugurated Prince Isaac Umejere as a Caretaker Committee Chair, saying the state government cannot stand aloof and watch the total breakdown of law and order in a local government area.

He said on Wednesday that security reports indicate that there was need to intervene and enthrone rule of law in the area, pointing out that
the priority of the care-taker committee is to restore peace and security in the community.

While charging them to collaborate with security agencies in their fight against cultism, the governor also advised them to avoid any links with cult groups like his predecessor, saying that if he is found to have a relationship with cultists he will be sacked.

“The situation in Ogba/Ndoni/Egbema is purely cult related violence. Even the All Progressives Congress (APC) Governorship candidate, Dakuku Peterside, agrees that the violence there has nothing to do with politics”, Wike said.
