The death toll from the earthquake in northwest Syria has risen to 326, according to Deputy Health Minister Ahmad Dumeira, who spoke to SANA on Monday. He stated that at least 1,042 people were injured, with the provinces of Aleppo, Hama, Latakia, and Tartus bearing the brunt of the damage.
The Syrian National Seismology Center’s director general, Dr. Raed Ahmed, was quoted by the SANA news agency as saying that the earthquake was the strongest since records began in 1995.
Dumeira stated that all hospitals were mobilized to treat the victims, and that additional ambulances and rescue teams were dispatched to disaster-affected areas.
Across the border, Turkey’s Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD) reported a 7.4 magnitude earthquake struck the country’s south at 4:17 a.m. on Monday. The epicenter was located in the Kahramanmaras Province’s Pazarcik district. 912 people were killed and 5,385 were injured, according to Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
