For the year 2014, ISIS and Boko Haram of Nigeria topped the list. When ISIS massacred 770 Iraqi soldiers in Tikrit, the carnage was so gruesome it was reported to be identifiable from space.
Boko Haram in Nigeria contested keenly with ISIS in 2014 with several single episode massacres including in Bama and Konduga leaving between 200-600 dead at a time. Overall for 2014 Boko Haram topped the list ad the most deadly terrorist group in the world, killing over 30,000 Nigerians with many shallow mass graves being discovered in occupied towns.
2015 Worst Massaces
The year 2015 witnessed the most deadly single event massacre of the decade. The most horrific event since 911 took place in Nigeria between January 3rd and 5th when Boko Haram swarmed the northwest fishing community of Baga and environs, killing as many as 2500 mostly Muslims and setting residences ablaze. It was the second time Baga would suffer a major massacre. The city first came into a crossfire in 2013 when the Nigerian military using overwhelming firepower burned down the same town under the pretense of fighting Boko Haram. As many as 600 were killed in the massacre.
While the Nigerian government attempted to deny the January 2015 Baga 2500 deaths massacre, claiming only 150 people died, satellite images quickly confirmed the harrowing extent of the massacre. Baga massacre was a Holocaust.
The second most deadly massacre in the world for 2015 took place in Nigeria again.
Between the afternoon of December 12th and the morning of December 13th in Zaria, a northern major city in Kaduna State of Nigeria an estimated over 1000 Muslims of the “Shia” Islamic movement minority group were massacred in a government military action.
For some alleged members of the movement obstructing the path of the nation’s military Chief, Lt. General T.Y. Buratai with sticks and stones, the Nigerian military surrounded all locations where he faithfulls were known to converge in the State and in full military engagement style, unleashed a volley of bullets and bombs on everyone in the buildings, ensuring no one escaped alive. The leader of the movement was only lucky to survive courtesy of a bunker and has since not been seen.
Hundreds were killed in the Islamic center, hundreds more were massacred in a settlement called Gyellesu where the leader lived and hundreds more were killed at a burial site. Most were youth of the ABU university. Like the Baga massacre the Zaria massacre was conducted with burning down or bulldozing all buildings to the ground.
According to Human Rights Watch, the Nigerian military hurriedly buried as many as 300 unidentified corpses in mass graves in attempt to cover the veracity of the massacre.
2015 stands as one of the most deadly years of carnage in human history.
