Mrs. Alison-Madueke was arrested and released on bail on Friday for corruption-related offenses.
Over 50 billion dollars has been looted under the minister’s watch from Nigeria over the past five years.
Though the former oil minister Diezani did not appear in court Monday, her mother, Beatrice Agama, and a certain other woman, Melanie Spencer, appeared. The cash was seized under Section 295 of Proceeds of Crime Act of 2012. A separate application was also made against Ms. Agama for the seizure of an undisclosed amount of money. The monies seized according to the court application will be held in custody for at least six months, till April 5, 2016.
