Insurgents suspected to be Boko haram members today attacked Katarko village, killed eight people and abducted a cleric, his wife and three others in Gujba Local Government Area of Yobe State.
Katarko village is located exactly 21 kilometers south of Damaturu, the capital of Yobe state.
Sources gave the names of the abducted Cleric and two others as Sheriff Ali, Goni Kolo and Ishak Alhaji Goni
Daily trust gathered that the attackers drove into the village in Many Hilux vans, motorcycles, Armored Tank with RPGs and attacked the military base in the area.
“They went straight to the only bridge linking other parts of Yobe to it Southern part and destroyed it, they shot eight people dead and abduct Malam Sherif, his wife and three other people” he said
The witness said that many people fled the town as the military unit in the area was dislodged by the assailants.
The town of Gujba is also under heavy attack by the insurgents.
Sources in the town revealed that there were sounds of gunshots and explosions currently renting the air in the town.
A resident who escaped to the bush confirmed seeing smoke in the surrounding neighbourhood. “We are yet to know the level of damage done but, I can see smoke in different directions” he said
