PDP Crises: Youth set Jonathan’s campaign bus ablaze in Jos

Crisis erupted in yet another PDP state chapter on Saturday, 10th January, as angry youths in Jos burnt a PDP branded bus and vandalised other cars.

According to reports, this was in protest of the candidacy of Gyang Pwajok, the PDP governorship candidate in Plateau state, whom they said was imposed by his former boss and outgoing governor, Jonah Jang.

Pwajok was returning from Lagos where he received the flag of the party to contest in the February 28 elections, but his return to the state was marred by the violence which took place, allegedly by PDP youths supporting another faction.

Pwajok is the current senator for the Jos North senatorial district, and was former SSG to Jonah Jang.

It should be recalled that the PDP primaries in various states were marred by various irregularities, leading to the rise of factions. This prompted a recent  statement by the PDP chairman, Adamu Muazu, in which he told the President that the party was ‘full of injustice’.

This injustice is a likely cause for the violence, and the question is whether a party characterised by ‘injustice’ can deliver the needed justice to Nigerians.

It should also be noted that following attacks on APC supporters in Rivers State on Tuesday, the other instance of major violence recorded so far is linked directly to PDP activities, and it counters the narrative of Buhari supporters being the ones most prone to violence.

The police are hereby urged to deal decisively with such acts of public disturbance, to prevent needless loss of life. No election is worth the life of any Nigerian citizen.
