Nigerian Senator Akpabio Disobeyed Traffic Light To Crash US Embassy Vehicle

The United States Embassy in Abuja has confirmed the convoy of former Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Godswill Akpabio, collided with one of its cars on Monday.

A Senior Information Specialist in the embassy, Sani Mohammed, who responded to an inquiry by PREMIUM TIMES, said the embassy was already cooperating with relevant security authorities in the country investigating the incident.

“A U.S. Embassy vehicle was involved in the accident,” Mr. Mohammed said. “We are staying in touch with local authorities who are investigating the matter.”

Asked to speak on the condition of the driver of the embassy vehicle involved in the crash, Mr. Mohammed said he did not have information on the driver.

As at 4.30 p.m., the Akwa Ibom State Governor, Udom Emmanuel, who arrived the hospital at 12.25p.m., was still inside the ward where his predecessor was being treated.

Other functionaries who visited the former governor in hospital included the member representing Akwa Ibom North-East at the Senate, Bassey Albert; the Speaker of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Aniekan Uko, among others.
