The Americans need their spiritual values back

by Harun Yahya

The most significant factor that turned the United States of America from a British colony into a world state is its founding values. In 1776, the original 13 states that formed the United States were inhabited by 2.5mn pious, hardworking, faithful and patriotic Americans who wholeheartedly believed in the equality among people.

The population of the US reached 50mn in 1880, 100mn in 1920, and 200mn in 1970, and the American people had always had a heartfelt love for Jesus and a deep devotion to Christianity. However, in the 2000s, we have seen this deep tie, which made America what it is today and united people from diverse nations, began to weaken.

Distancing themselves from religion spells the thinning and the eventual falling apart of the cement that holds the American society together. With the Obama Administration, American society has begun to undergo a major transformation. The bureaucracy has started to alienate religion from the social life.

This transformation reached its peak with a report introduced on September 7 by the US Commission on Human Rights chairman, Martin Castro. In his report on policies for fighting against discrimination, Castro questioned the Christian beliefs of certain founding and administrative figures.

His statements also presented pious Americans as a threat that should be dealt with. Before long, anti-Christian policies began to affect the American judicial system as well.

For the first time in history, “an atheist judge” was appointed as an associate justice to the Supreme Court of the US, whose members have been specifically chosen from among Christians in pursuance of the founding values of the USA.

The primary duty of US presidents and government staffs is without doubt to protect the social values of the USA. Studies show that 94% of American citizens believe in the existence of God. A total of 70% expresses absolute trust in God while 58% considers religion a “crucial” factor in their lives. Some 40% of 300mn American citizens pray daily.

The American military points to the Church as the “most trustworthy institution” in the USA. The current US administration’s distanced attitude towards religious values has had dramatic impacts on American society. Currently, homosexuality enjoys an unprecedented tolerance in the USA.

The actual reason that made the USA the powerful country it is today is the good moral values that come with the ideals of love and peace. Likewise, what will render the country more prosperous and powerful are certainly not dreadful concepts such as irreligion or homosexuality, but religious belief.

The USA is a nation of 320mn extending over a land of 10mn km2 and cohesion to their common values is what will hold this populous society together.

Leniency is diminishing with each passing day while a strange spirit of violence and conflict has begun to emerge among society in general.

African, Hispanic or Indian Americans are on the streets every day in protest against racist policies.

“We Are The 99%” or “Occupy Wall Street” movements blame the US government for the ever-increasing gap between the rich and the poor.

A nation-wide discontent shakes the foundations of the 250-year-old state to its core.

The USA has been dragged into a vicious cycle of ever-growing violence. According to FBI records, in 2015, 1.2mn people committed crimes of violence while 11mn people were taken into custody. During the same period, the number of larceny crimes was 8.5mn. In the 53,000 armed-incidents, 14,000 people were killed while 25,000 were injured.

In the 700,000-populated Detroit, 15,000 crimes of violence were committed in 2014, in which 300 people lost their lives.

Considering these statistics, Detroit is actually a more dangerous place than many cities in Iraq, Syria or Pakistan. By 2016, these crime rates have clearly become even higher.

The country is noticeably regressing in social order, economy, and politics as well as in military and social spheres.

Day by day, the USA loses more and more of its allies while making new enemies.

Therefore, the president-elect Donald Trump is taking on a heavy burden. I hope that with the new president and the vice-president giving value to the spiritual ideals of the American people, the USA will be able to return to the lives they have been seeking for the longest time.

My wish for this precious nation is to abandon the spirit of violence and set an example to the entire world with its joyfulness and sense of liberty.
