On Wednesday, an Arkansas Democrat chastised California Gov. Gavin Newsom for criticizing his state’s Republican governor, Sarah Huckabee Sanders.
What did Newsom have to say about it?
As Huckabee Sanders delivered the Republican response to President Joe Biden’s State of the Union address, Newsom used the opportunity to attack both him and Arkansas.
“While @SarahHuckabee touts public safety, here’s what she forgets: Arkansas has one of the highest murder rates in the country,” Newsom tweeted.
In her speech, Huckabee Sanders addressed two issues: crime and public safety.
“I’ve learned not to believe everything I hear as a mother of three young children. So please excuse my skepticism about much of what President Biden said tonight. From out-of-control inflation and violent crime to the dangerous border crisis and Chinese threat, Biden and the Democrats have failed you “She stated at the beginning of her speech.
“Following years of Democrat attacks on law enforcement and calls to defund the police, violent criminals roam free, while law-abiding families live in fear,” she said near the end of her speech.
According to Huckabee Sanders, “Republicans believe in an America where strong families thrive in safe communities.”
What was the response?
Arkansas state Rep. Andrew Collins, a Democrat, may not be of the same political party as his new governor, but he has come out in support of Huckabee Sanders and his state.
“1. She has served as Governor for a month. 2. In order to reduce violent crime, Arkansas must address crime drivers such as poverty, a lack of education, and a lack of opportunity. Is it true that Arkansas has a high rate of homicide?
Yes. Arkansas has one of the highest per capita murder and violent crime rates in the country.
The Deep South, the Lower Mississippi River valley, and Missouri, in fact, have the highest murder rates.
