A policeman was killed in a gun duel on Sunday night between security agencies and a large band of well-armed Fulani herdsmen in the Southern Kaduna area of Kaduna State, a source at Defence Headquarters in Abuja told SaharaReporters.
He further stated that some other policemen and soldiers were also injured during the clash.
The Fulani herdsmen were repelled by the soldiers and mobile policemen in about four villages in Jema’a and Kaura local government areas of the state in the engagement, which lasted into Monday morning, but they required reinforcements from other locations.
The source explained that the herdsmen were determined to kill people and burn down several villages.
The corpse of the deceased officer was taken to a public hospital in Kafanchan. Other corpses were retrieved from villages in both local government areas where the murderous herdsmen killed at least 20 people in Southern Kaduna between Sunday and Monday.
