A man has been charged with assault with a deadly weapon after stand-up comedian Dave Chappelle was attacked on stage at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles, before appearing to make a joke about the man being trans.

A 23-year-old man, named Isaiah Lee, has been charged following the incident, the Los Angeles Police Department confirmed.

Mr Chappelle was performing in Los Angeles on Tuesday evening as part of the Netflix Is A Joke festival when he was attacked live on stage, according to videos shared on social media.

Brianna Sacks, a reporter at the show, said just as the event was ending “a man charged and tackled” the comedian.
