About Riverine Communities;
PROFILE
Riverine communities consist of over 9 Local Government Areas, Riverine communities were referred to as Oil Rivers Protectorate , a name derived from its central role in the oil trades of the last two centuries. First, the trade in palm oil and,then crude oil. Riverine communities, generates a huge chunk of the nation’s foreign exchange earnings.
NOTE:
Bonny, Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas (NLNG) produces 22million metric tons of LNG per year and accounts for over 30% of liquefied natural gas that Nigeria produces, in 2014 ,NLNG remitted over N 200 billion for its 2013 company income tax (CIT) to the Federal Government , making it the highest company income tax ever paid by a company in a financial year.
Also Opobo/Nkoro,Abonnema ,Andoni ,Degema ,Buguma ,Okrika are vast oil producing communities, remitting billions as tax to Federal Government.Yet such a rich zone can’t produce the governor of the State.
GEOGRAPHY
Riverine communities are bounded on the south by the Atlantic Ocean ,on the North by Anambra ,Imo and Abia States ,the East by Akwa Ibom State and the west by Bayelsa and Delta -States.Riverine, Which is in the Niger – Delta ,has topography of flat plains with a network of rivers and tributaries .These include New Calabar ,Orashi ,Bonny ,Sombrero and Bartholomew Rivers .With tropical climate, numerous rivers and vast areas of arable land .Riverine communities are also good in fishing ,rearing of livestock ,crop harvesting/planting (farming). Timber, white sand beaches clay from ceramics (ash, yellow and red) can be found in Riverine communities.
PEOPLE
Riverine communities has a population of about 4million people also known as “Eastern Ijaws” known for its rich cultural heritage usually known to be friendly and hospitable ,these people come from various ethnic nationalities.
CULTURE
Riverine communities are known for its rich culture. Events/communities such as Opobo annual international boat regatta, Andoni elephant sanctuary ,Kalabari annual boat regatta , Okrika annual boat regatta,etc.
EASTERN IJAW:
Eastern Ijaw; Its mother tongue is izon.Communities such as Opobo/Nkoro , Ahoada East ,Ahoada -West, Akuku – Toru ,Asari – Toru , Andoni , Bonny/Finima , Ekpeye ,Ibani , Engenni , Degema , Ogu/Bolo “Okrika” make up a tribe known as Eastern ijaw. These are rich riverine communities with vast population, natural resources, culture, religion, etc. Eastern ijaw is not just a tribe but a united force to reckon with.
HISTORY/ORIGINATION OF RIVERINE GOVERNOR AGITATION IN RIVERS – STATE:
The quest for a “ Riverine Governor “ ; Began in the month of December 2013 ,It originated from the social media such as face book , twitter ,linkedin ,etc. Introduced by the All Progressives Congress youth members . Early 2014 ;After a meeting of different political parties in Rivers -State ; A resolution was reached to agitate for a ‘’ Riverine Governor ‘’ under the platform of the All Progressives Congress. The agitation did not stop on social media ,It was presented to Hon Davies Ikanya ( The All Progressives Congress ,Chairman) sponsored by an All Progressives Congress Riverine steward in Rivers – State.
The agitation was adopted by Prince Tonye Princewill , Nimi Walson Jack , Emmanuel T. Georgewill , Dumo Lulu Briggs and other notable sons and daughters followed suit.Prince Tonye Princewill, Nimi Walson Jack,etc later sold the agitation to Barr Nyesom Wike in the long run.

Upland produced two Executive Governors in Rivers-State , (Sir) Dr Peter Odili and RT.Hon Rotimi Chibuike Amaechi .They both governed for 16years at different times ,Since the introduction of democratic government that began in 1999.
RIVERINE;
Opobo/Nkoro ,Asari-Toru , Andoni ,Akuku-Toru ,Bonny/Finima ,Degema ,Ogu/Bolo ,Okrika .
Riverine haven’t produced a governor.
RIVERS WEST SENATORIAL DISTRICT;
Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni,Ahoada-West,Ahoada-East,Abua/Odual,Degema,Akuku-Toru,Asari-Toru and Bonny/Finima.His Excellency (Sir) Dr Peter Odili hails from this district.
RIVERS EAST SENATORIAL DISTRICT;
Port-Harcourt ,Ikwere ,Okrika ,Ogu/Bolo ,Obio/Akpor ,Etche ,Omuma and Emohua. Former Executive Governor of Rivers-State , RT.Hon Rotimi Chibuike Amaechi hails from this district .
RIVERS SOUTH EAST SENATORIAL DISTRICT;
Opobo/Nkoro , Andoni , Oyigbo , Tai ,Eleme ,Khana ,Bori and Gokana. Rivers South East is the only district that haven’t produced a ‘’Governor’’.
BRIEF CONCLUSION;
Riverine/Rivers South East Senatorial District, Haven’t produced an Executive Governor f Rivers-State . The All Progressives Congress,Rivers-State offered the Rivers South East Senatorial district and Riverine communities the opportunity to produce a ‘’Governor’’ of the State ,In person of Dr Dakuku Adolphus Peterside.
PROFILE OF THE IDEAL GOVERNOR OF RIVERS-STATE;STOLEN MANDATE:
Dr Dakuku Adolphus Peterside was born on 31st December ,1970 to a middle class family of Senibo Adolphus Peterside , His father was a famous merchant called Senibo Nibilagh Peterside .
Dr Dakuku grew up in Azumini ,Aba ,both in present day Abia-State ,Kaduna and Port-Harcourt at various times .He is married to Elima ,A lawyer and they have three beautiful children ,Soba,Belema and Miebi whose hobbies are writing, reading, swimming and foot-ball.

The summit provides a platform for traditional rulers, academics, thinkers, businesses, NGO’s , women, youths, clergy and professionals to share ideas and shape the economic vision of the constituency .Every year ‘’AONEZDS’’ sponsors Andoni and Opobo/Nkoro scholars overseas to study. Dr Dakuku Adolphus Peterside was the first Opobo student to be elected as the National President of National Union of Rivers -State students. Dr Dakuku Adolphus Peterside secondary education was at Okrika grammer school Okrika . Dr Dakuku Adolphus Peterside later gained admission into Rivers -State University of Science and Technology where he studied Hematology and Management , and obtained B.MLS and MBA respectively .Dr Dakuku Adolphus Peterside also attended short courses to boost his career .Prestigious Universities in the United States,Such as Havard University, Kellogg School of Management and Georgia State University. Dr Dakuku Adolphus Peterside is presently a PhD holder.

Hon Asita Okorie Asita hails from Ahoada West Local Government Area , Orashi region of Rivers-State. Hon Asita is married to Mrs Patricia Asita ,they have beautiful kids together.Before Hon Asita joined politics.He was one of the first politician to be appointed as a Commissioner in Rivers-State when democracy initially began,under Dr Peter Odili (The First Elected Governor of Rivers-State).

- Riverine Governor Agitation; Cut across the twenty L.G.A’s in Rivers-State.
- Riverine communities suffers from social, economic, political, environmental, educational and cultural degradation.
- Dichotomy arrangement suffers a major setback, which is a opprobrium.
- Riverine ruled during Military ruler ship for thirteen years, which does not count.
- Riverine Governor Agitation; Began with the All Progressives Congress Rivers – State.
- Riverine Governor Agitation; is not just an idea but a move.
- Riverine communities in Rivers – State contributes 100% of Nigeria’s natural liquefied gas. Upland has governed Rivers -State for twenty(20) years > Riverine (Nil),It means in mathematics ,Upland is greater than Riverine in terms of governance.Mathematics Calculation:Upland 20 > Riverine 0 = Disenfranchised + Marginalized ;Final Result = Lack of Development , Illiteracy , Militancy , Poverty ,etc.
- Without Riveirne communities , Nigeria and Rivers-State won’t survive.
RECOMMENDED SOLUTION:
– A Riverine who knows the sufferings of Riverine communities should govern the State in 2019.
- Dichotomy arrangement in Rivers-state is the best option.Be it Riverine/Upland dichotomy , Senatorial/Riverine dichotomy or Upland/Senatorial dichotomy.
