All the presidential candidates for the February 14 presidential election, under various political platforms have signed an agreement, agreeing not to instigate violence in any part of the country regardless of the outcome of the poll.
The agreement, tagged “Abuja Accord” contains provisions which compel all the candidates to the agreement to ensure that their agents or supporter s do not cause violence after the February election.
The agreement was signed in the presence of the former Secretary General of Commonwealth, Chief Emeka and the former Secretary General of the United Nations; Mr. Kofi Annan was also witnessed by members of the diplomatic community.
All the presidential candidates of the various political parties at the accord were given opportunities to speak to the audience where they stated their positions on the issue of violence over elections.
