A large gathering of pro-Palestinian activists marched through downtown London, demanding an immediate ceasefire in Gaza. Social media videos of the event have gone viral.

According to reports, the march was organised by the Palestine Solidarity Campaign. The official path of the march, according to its Facebook page, began at Victoria Embankment and finished at Parliament Square.

Tens of thousands of protestors have gathered in the capital and around the country to condemn Israel’s attack on Gaza and demand an immediate ceasefire, according to the BBC. Over 1,000 Metropolitan Police officers have been deployed across the capital amid the protests, according to the outlet.

On Wednesday, Prime Minister Rishi Sunak called for the return of captives kidnapped by Hamas during the October 7 attack on Israel, as well as the delivery of humanitarian goods to Gaza. However, he said, “for all of that to happen, there has to be a safer environment, which of course necessitates specific pauses as distinct from a ceasefire.”

Since the Palestinian terrorist organisation began its surprise onslaught, killing over 1,400 people and seizing over 200 prisoners, Israel has bombarded Gaza and imposed a total blockade. According to Palestinian sources, the enclave’s dead toll has surpassed 7,000 people, including 3,000 children.

Despite reports that Gaza’s healthcare system has failed, Israel continues to strike the densely populated region. On Friday, Israel Defence Forces (IDF) spokesperson Daniel Hagari announced that ground forces are expanding their operations in Gaza, in addition to the attacks of the past few days.
