A photo obtained by Saharareporters shows three well known actors in Goodluck Jonathan’s Presidency, once mighty, in a detention cell at the facility of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
The photo shows Reuben Abati, a former Senior Special Assistant on Media to ex-President Jonathan, looking downcast as he apparently reluctantly consented to take a photo with a former Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Mohammed Bala, a former campaign spokesman for the failed Goodluck Jonathan 2015 presidential campaign, Femi Fani-Kayode, and a former Minister of State for Defense, Musiliu Obanikoro. A fourth man whose name was given as Bashir Ushaq Bashir is seen smiling in the photo.
All the men in the photo except the former FCT Minister, Bala Mohammed, were accused of embezzling from federal funds meant for fighting Boko Haram.
Former minister of Defense Obanikoro, who turned himself in to the EFCC after voluntarily returning from the US, sports boxers in the photo. He is accused of misappropriating as much as N7 billion of the funds meant for fighting the Boko Haram insurgency in Nigeria’s northeast corridor.
Mr. Fani-Kayode is accused of stealing at least N2.3 billion, while Mr. Abati was recently arrested and detained for stealing N50m.
The former FCT minister reportedly illegally sold federal lands and remiited monies to former First Lady Patience Jonathan.
