The Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) has promised to get justicefor the 35 Shi’ite members killed by “soldirs” in Zaria, Kaduna State.
According to The Nation newspaper, those killed include three sons of the leader of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria (IMN), Sheik Ibrahim El-zazakky.
Adamu Muhammed, who led an ACF delegation to sympathise with the cleric in his Zaria home said the forum would not rest until justice is done.
His words: “ACF will not fold its arms and see innocent lives being lost for no just cause, for selfish interest and political calculations.”
The Secretary-General of ACF, Col. Jerry Uba, while presenting a letter of condolence to the cleric mentioned that the death of the cleric’s son and that of his followers has deprived the family of the cleric a very dear and promising offspring.
Sheik El-Zakzaky said the soldiers who shot his followers disguised in his IMN’s uniform to “blackmail law-abiding members of the movement.” He said further that movement had never possessed a firearm in its about 40 years of existence.
It would be recalled that over 30 members of the group were shot dead in July by Nigerian soldiers during the group’s procession in Zaria, Kaduna State, to mark the annual International Quds Day.
Among those mowed down by the soldiers were Mr. Zakzaky’s three biological sons, Mahmud, Ahmad and Hamid as well as 32 other members of the Islamic Movement.
Mahmud was a student of Almustapha University, Beirut, Ahmad a Chemical Engineering student of Shenyang University, China and Hamid an Aeronautical Engineering student of Xiang University, also in China.
A fourth son of the cleric, Ali, was also shot in the leg and survived.
