Adamawa Communities Allege Extrajudicial Killings By Nigerian Soldiers As Teacher, Others Murdered

Yola — Gulak and Duhu communities in Madagali LocalGovernment Area of Adamawa State have alleged continued extra judicial killings by vigilantes and military as more suspects have disappeared while in custody.

Tension mounted on Wednesday over the arrest of a teacher, Habu Bello on the same day as well as two elderly persons in their late fiftees, Idrisa Dele and Umaru Hammankadi when news filtered that they were executed by soldiers..

Soon after the arrest of Bello on Wednesday dozens of women were said to have gathered in Duhu for on ward march to the military base in Gulak to demand for his release ‎but were persuaded by a village head who promised to intervene.

However, the outgoing commander of the 28 Special Task Force in Mubi, Brigadier General Victor Ezwugu who has just taken over as the GOC 7 Division in Maiduguri said some of the mentioned suspects were not handed over to the military.‎ He refuted the allegations, saying suspect are throughly investigated and treated in accordance with the law.

When contacted, the District Head of Duhu, Alhaji Mustapha Sanusi cautioned the the military to operate within the confines of the Lawa saying some vigilantes members stock the embers of hatred and need to be checked. He called on federal authorities to investigate the allegations.
