Nigeria’s President Muhammadu Buhari made a blunder while speaking to Nigerians in the Diaspora on the N5000 stipend for the poor.

He said: “This largesse N5,000 for the unemployed, I have got a slightly different priority. I would rather do the infrastructure, the school and correct them and empower agriculture, mining so that every able bodied person can go and get work instead of giving 5,000, N5,000 to those who don’t work.”

This was quickly picked on by the PDP to claim that Nigeria had made a U-turn on the policy.

Department Under Vice President’s Office Placed This As Highest Priority

This is absolutely wrong and a blunder by President Muhammadu Buhari. Nigeria’s Department of Social Protection under the office of the Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo is already in test phases and is rolling out N5000 stipends Conditional Cash Transfer (CCT) to millions of Nigerians in the near future.

While technically the “social security” is for the poor and not for the unemployed, which the president is correct about, it is understood that President Muhammadu Buhari is not totally aware of all projects and the extent of each and every project being carried out by his administration.

The general public is advised not to allow this unnecessary false propaganda disturb them.
