Earlier today, a website called emefielemustgo.com made a strong allegation against the CBN governor, Godwin Emefiele concerning the fine against Standard Chartered Bank imposed by the CBN last week because of forex arbitrage.
The site purports to tell the true story of what happened, alleging that the CBN governor favoured his last place of employment, Zenith Bank in the deal.
His handling of Nigeria’s foreign exchange problems have left many in Nigeria’s finance sector disappointed.
The site even says:
Please be aware that we are not here to defend Nigerian banks and bankers. They are not saints. We are here to tell the truth about the damage Emefiele is doing to our economy. This forex scarcity has increaed his power over the economy and he is now doing anything he likes. Is this because he is protected by Abba Kyari?
While the identities of those behind the ‘Emefiele Must Go’ website are not known, Osita Nwoye is also fed up with ‘Goddy’, and wants to start a petition to have him removed from office.
This is interesting stuff. It remains to be seen how far this will go.
