Nigeria recently presented the world’s oldest woman, 120 Year old Mrs. Juliana Abebi Shodiya in Lagos. Mrs Shodiya had recollections of her participation in missionary work at a Church built in 1901. Now Africa’s most populous nation claims the world’s oldest man; the 170 year old Chief in Ekiti state, South-west of the nation, James Olofintuyi.

Like Mrs Shodiya, Mr James Olofintuyi is also of the Yoruba, west African ethnic group.

In the news, an Indonesian man who has emerged from obscurity to claim he is the world’s oldest at 145 years has revealed he is ready to die now.

According to documentation recognised by Indonesian officials, Mbah Gotho is 145 and was born on 31st December 1870.
