President Goodluck Jonathan has today appointed Mr. Suleiman Abba, as the new Inspector General of Police. His appointment came after the incumbent- Mr. Mohammed Abubakar retires tomorrow after spending the mandatory 35 years in service.
Mr. Suleiman Abba was before his appointment the Assistant Inspector General of Police, Zone 7.
Abba had served as the Commissioner of Police in charge of Rivers State, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Assistant Commissioner of Police in charge of State CID, FCT Police Command.
He was also the ADC to Mrs. Maryam Abacha, during the administration of General Sani Abacha as the Military Head of State.
The appointment of Mr. Abba was a collective decision of the Police council, which is made up of the 36 state governors and the Chairman of the Police Service Commission, Mr. Mike Okiro (IGP, rtd).
The Inspector General of Police, Mr. Mohammed Abubakar, whose tenure expires tomorrow, July 31, 2014, was appointed the 16th IGP in January 2012.
