A member of Shehu Shagari’s family has reached out to NewsRescue to express the frustration of the family with Nigeria’s president Muhamamdu Buhari withholding the former president’s entitlements.
The son said,
“Withholding the entitlements of the former president Alh. Shehu Shagari an Elder Statesman is a deliberate attempt aimed at unleashing more anger and enmity towards the innocent old man.
“I wonder how the Buhari-Led government hides under the covers of recession to withhold the pension and entitlement of somebody who spent his entire life serving this great country meritoriously with utmost humility and sincerity.
“Alh. Shehu Shagari was not a thief even ‘Your’ commission of enquiry that probed his presidency in 1983 couldn’t establish any evidence of corruption against his person. This action is condemnable, unacceptable and inhumane.
“Withholding his grants cannot make our economy stronger neither take us out of recession.”
