Two Injured In Kaduna Bomb Blast That Targeted Islamic Cleric, Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi

July 2, 2014

Two persons sustained injuries this evening as a bomb exploded in Kaduna near the home of Sheik Dahiru Bauchi, a prominent Nigerian Islamic scholar of the Tijjaniya sect. A military officer confirmed the development to SaharaReporters.

The officer stated that security operatives in uniform and plain clothes were working hard to uncover the culprits behind the act.

In an interview with our New York office, Mohammed Ibrahim, a member of Tijjaniya, stated that the bomb must have been targeted at their leader, Sheik Bauchi, whose Kaduna home is close to the scene of the explosion.

Speaking through an interpreter, the source stated that the explosion was certainly from a bomb. He added that two people were injured and rushed to a hospital. “There is a likelihood that it was targeted at our leader, Sheik Dahiru Bauchi and the entourage,” he said. Mr. Ibrahim added: “We are volunteers and know what we are saying. “Many of us pass through [the area of the explosion] daily with our leader. Today it happened after we had returned from our mosque in Tudun Wada.” He urged the government to provide adequate security.

Our military source said Governor Mukhtar Yero had been in touch with heads of security agencies in the state and had been briefed on the explosion.
